NUM Study Network an Specialty Network Infectious Diseases enter Pilot Phase
The NUM Study Network is actively working on streamlining processes for the conduct of clinical and clinical-epidemiological studies. This includes optimizing contract management, identifying obstacles in study implementation, and developing or evaluating suitable software solutions to enable efficient collaboration across sites.
Together with the Specialty Network Infectious Diseases, we have successfully launched their pilot phase started in July 2024. Our goal is to conduct clinical studies more efficiently, collaboratively, and with greater real-world relevance. News from the Specialty Network Infectious Diseases
Our Specialty Network Infectious Diseases is growing and continuously evolving. Contribute your expertise and help shape research on all kinds of infections!
This expert network is developing a systematic approach for standardized and effective recruitment across five key areas of infectious medicine:
- Bloodstream infections
- Gastrointestinal infections
- Respiratory infections
- Infections of the central nervous system
- Emerging infections
Master Study Protocol for Infectious Diseases
Together with the Specialty Network Infectious Diseases, a comprehensive master study protocol has been developed to cover multiple disease areas across five key areas of infectious medicine. This modular approach allows for flexible adaptation to new health threats and facilitates rapid implementation of new studies.
After an intensive period of preparation and numerous important discussions, we are very pleased to announce that we have now also received the formal approval from the National Steering Committee (NSG) of the Medical Informatics Initiative. Together with all particiapants, we are excited to launch the recruitment phase for the Specialty Network for Infectious Diseases on May 5, 2025.
All sites that have joined the One Study – One Vote procedure or have already received a positive ethics approval may now begin recruitment.
NUM Study Network Infectious Diseases at ESCMID Global 2025
At this year’s ESCMID Global (April 11–15, 2025, Vienna), the Study Network Infectious Diseases made its official debut on the international stage. With a dedicated booth, the coordination team presented the network’s mission, the powerful infrastructure behind it – provided by the NUM Study Network – and its vision for the future of clinical infectious disease research.
Through an interactive quiz, engaging conversations, and detailed information materials, we highlighted three core aspects of Study Network Infectious Diseases to the public audience:
- A comprehensive base cohort – An evolving collection of clinical data and biosamples from patients with infectious diseases, made accessible to the broader scientific community.
- Flexible, adaptive recruitment – The ability to dynamically scale and shift recruitment focus, particularly in rapid response to healthcare emergencies.
- Enabling external research – Creating the conditions for external sponsors to conduct clinical trials at the study sites, supported by the robust and establishedinfrastructure.
We were thrilled by the lively interest and inspiring exchanges at our booth. These interactions not only enhanced visibility of the network but also sparked innovative ideas and opened the door to potential collaborations.
The future of infection research is collaborative — and we are proud to be shaping it together.

NUM GUIDE SURVEY On your Experience with the NUM Study Network
Dear user of the NUM Study Network,
You are receiving this message because you are using the NUM SN research infrastructure. Through your active use of NUM SN, you have valuable insights into the research infrastructure of the Network University Medicine (NUM).
We, the team of the NUM GUIDE project – the scientific accompanying project of NUM – would like to better understand these experiences. For this purpose, we cordially invite you to participate in an online survey, which pursues two goals:
- To gather your practical experiences with the research infrastructures and identify challenges in their use, from which potential improvements can be derived.
- To conduct a scientific study on the usage and social dynamics of research infrastructures.
The survey will take approximately 20 minutes of your time. Please take the time to answer our questions thoroughly. Your data will, of course, be treated completely anonymously.
You can access the survey via this link: https://wiwigoettingen.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1A3pW3eZIPKaTEW. Participation is possible until May 5, 2025.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at any time (wi-num@uni-goettingen.de).
Sharing your experiences makes a valuable contribution to scientific understanding and the further development of infrastructures.
